  • Phone Interview Tips
  •     In today's world where time is money and lost time relates to lost money, more and more companies are turning to Phone Interviews as a way of screening out unqualified Job Applicants. Lets face it, people tend to add a little extra to their resume, or better yet put down skills that that they either no very little of or nothing at all. Phone Interviews are set up to screen out unqualfied Job Applicants and bring in only well qualfied applicants who can communicate effectively. To help you get past the Phone Interview and to the face to face Interview follow the below listed Phone Interview TIPS.

The right time:   Setup your Phone Interview at a convient time where you will be alone with no distractions. This is very important, the last thing you want is your children screaming, the TV on and the door bell ringing.

Set the table:   You need to be seated at a table with all your references in front of you. Have at least the following on the table:

    1. Resume: You will be asked questions based upon your resume. Having the Resume in front of you allows you to reference it quickly and effectively without having to look around for it or delay answering the question. Print out Key Items on your Resume in a larger font that your eye will pick up first when quickly glancing at it.

    2. Cover Letter: Cover Letters summerize your past Job History as well as your skills. It is important to be able to reference this if a question is asked relating to this.

    3. Job Description: The job you are interviewing for is described in detail in the Job Description. What better reference to have in front of you than this? You can generate questions about the job from this description to Ask at the End as well as talk intelligently about the postion.

    4. List of Questions/Answers: You need to be prepared and armed with Answers to potential questions you might be asked. Take a look at our vast amount of Questions/Answers relating to all different careers as well as our General Interview Questions. Print these out and study them as well as have them in front of you to reference and read from.

    5. Points list: Create a list of Points you want to get across during the Interview. During the interview you can check off each Point one by one after addressing. Points can be that you are a quick learner, team player, driven, educated, etc.

Sell yourself:   Your only objective for the Phone Interview is to get the Face to Face Interview. Don't be afraid to sell yourself. Remember that every good salesperson asks for the sale and you can too. End your interview with a closing statement, reiterating why you'd be a good employee, it's just the type of position you've been looking for and that you'd be a good addition to their team.
